♦ The Lakers are the only team to begin the season with back-to-back-to-back games, beginning with a showdown with the Chicago Bulls on Christmas Day. ♦ Former UCLA shooting guard Jason Kapono will sign a 1-year deal with the Lakers when free agency begins on Dec. 9, 2011.
♦PG/SG Delonte West has narrowed his choices down to the Lakers, Celtics and Mavericks and would be a solid role player off the bench for any of these three championship contenders.
♦ In case you forgot, Center Andrew Bynum will open the season serving a 5-game suspension for his brutal clothesline of Dallas guard J. J. Barea. Bynum has already appealed the suspension, but is unlikely to get his sentence reduced by the league.
♦ Speaking of J.J. Barea, he’s just one of the free agents the Lakers are said to be talking to. Other notables include SG Arron Afflalo, PF/C Josh McRoberts, PG Delonte West, and Kapono. L.A. will also explore former All-Stars PG Baron Davis and SF Rashard Lewis if they are waived by their teams via the Amnesty clause of the new CBA.
